Online poker sites usually run several kind of poker tournaments. Two of the most common are Sit & Go’s and satellite tournaments. The former are generally available for all players at any time. The latter are usually qualifying tournaments, which allow the winners entry into larger, more lucrative poker games.

Sit & Go’s

Sit & Go’s (commonly referred to as SNG tournaments) are normally open to all players. These poker tournaments are single-table tournaments. They get their name from the fact that once everybody has “sat” at the poker table, the games goes. In order to compete in a Sit & Go tournament. Players need to check out what tables are available at their gaming domain, and then check out the limits for that table. Then they simply need to wait for a table to become free, to play.

Satellite Tournaments

Satellite tournaments tend to be far more unique. A satellite tournament is a poker tournament, although it usually leads to qualification to a larger poker event. The World Series of Poker is a prime example of this. Generally, entry into a premier poker tournament is an expensive affair, so in order to allow players with smaller budgets entry into the tournament, satellite tournaments were created. These poker tournaments will allow their winner a spot at one of the more lucrative events. Make no mistake though, even satellite tournaments can be expensive to enter at times.

Every poker player has their preferences, and whether Sit & Go’s or satellite tournaments are better for you depends entirely on what kind of poker player you wish to be – and your experience.
